Tkanun Y.V., an individual entrepreneur filed a lawsuit with the court in Uralsk to defend his honor, dignity and business reputation against Zlata Udovichenko, regional correspondent for the West Kazakhstan region of the national newspaper Vremya. The reason for the lawsuit was the article about the legal proceedings between pensioners and the local real estate developer Yury Tkanun. In his claim, the businessman demanded to exact from the journalist KZT 800,000 (more than USD 1,800) as compensation for moral damage. On July 11, 2022, the businessman withdrew his claim.
