On April 23, Zaura Mizakhodjaeva, a journalist from Shymkent, reported on her Facebook page that she was being summoned to the Abay Police Department in Shymkent. According to senior investigator Kulbayeva, she was summoned in a criminal case under Art. 274, part 4, par. 2 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan (“dissemination of deliberately false information in conditions of a state of emergency). Moreover, the investigator refused to tell her over the phone what exact information of hers was referenced. The journalist and her two lawyers signed a pledge not to divulge the materials of the investigation. She has the status of a witness in the case with the right to defense.
