The Zheleznodorozhny District Court of the Moscow Region confirmed Kurakin’s three-year suspended sentence in a case of especially large-scale fraud (Part 4 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). The reason for the case was a debt allegedly owed by the housing cooperative, of which Kurakin was the chairman, to the heating network. He linked the prosecution to his activism and political stance. Kurakin was detained in the summer of 2019 before the start of the election campaign to the Reutov City District Council of Deputies, thus preventing him from running in the election.
