The Oktyabrsky District Court in Ulan-Ude has received case materials for an administrative offence against journalist Yevgenia Baltatarova. She is accused of taking part in the activities of an organisation designated as “undesirable” under Article 20.33 of the Code of Administrative Offences. In 2022, Baltatarova was added to the register of so-called “foreign agents”. In the same year, a criminal case was opened against her for allegedly spreading “fake news” about the army under Part 2 of Article 207.3 of the Criminal Code, after which she was detained in Kazakhstan. In 2024, the journalist managed to relocate to France. In July 2025, Baltatarova was sentenced in absentia to seven years in a general-regime penal colony for disseminating military “fake news” and for failing to comply with the requirements imposed on “foreign agents” under Article 330.1 of the Criminal Code.
