On 16 July 2025, the Sovetsky District Court in Ulan-Ude, the capital of the Republic of Buryatia, sentenced the journalist and blogger Yevgenia Baltatarova in absentia to seven years in a general-regime penal colony. She was convicted of ‘disseminating false information about the Russian armed forces’ under the motivation of hatred (Clause d, Part 2, Article 207.3 of the Russian Criminal Code) and of ‘evading the obligations of a foreign agent’ (Part 2, Article 330.1 of the Criminal Code). Baltatarova was also fined an unknown amount.
