Interim Acting Rector of the Yerevan State University Hovhannes Hovhannisyan filed a lawsuit with the Yerevan Court of General Jurisdiction against the founders of the news websites Yerevan.today and Politik.am — Media Plus LLC and Tribune of Free Speech NGO — with demands to refute the information considered as libel, publicly apologise for the insult, and pay compensation for the insult and libel. The reason for the lawsuit was an article published in Yerevan.today on August 18, where, in particular, it was mentioned that if Hovhannisyan is approved for the post of rector, «there is only one step left — to name YSU after Soros». The author then asks the question: «Does the applicant for YSU know that he/she is admitted to an institution run by Soros people?». In the same lawsuit, Hovhannisyan challenges the word «Sorosovite», used in the article, addressed to him.
