In Grozny, unknown persons beat up Novaya Gazeta journalist Yelena Milashina and lawyer Alexander Nemov who had come to attend the announcement of the verdict of the mother of the Chechen oppositionists, brothers Yangulbayevs, Zarema Musayeva. Milashina and Nemova were kicked, including in the face, had a gun put to their heads, received death threats, and had their equipment taken away and smashed. The beaters said: «You have been warned. Go away from here and don’t write anything». Milashina’s fingers were broken, she had bruises all over her body, her head was shaved bare and covered in brilliant green paint, and she occasionally lost consciousness.
