On 24 July 2023, the Narimanov District Court, presided over by Judge Vusal Gurbanov, sentenced Vugar Mammadov, the editor-in-chief of the daily Hurriyyet, the Youtube channel Hurriyyet TV and the news portal Hurriyyet.az, to one month in administrative detention on charges of ‘posting, or failure to prevent from posting, confidential information on the Internet’ (Article 388.1.1.1 of the Azerbaijani Code of Administrative Offences). According to Hurriyyet, Mammadov was accused of broadcasting a critical interview about the Ministry of Defence with the retired Colonel Enur Mammadov, who was also sentenced to one month in administrative detention. Mammadov's lawyer, Bahruz Bayramov, has announced that he will challenge the judgment, which he said was based on false accusations since no confidential information was discussed in the interview.
