The journalists of the website Vlast.kz were denied entry to the Specialised Administrative Court of Almaty, where they planned to cover the administrative trial of Kosai Makhanbayev, one of the victims of torture during the January events. He had been detained outside the city prosecutor’s office the day before and held all day in the building of the Department for Combating Corruption. The reason given for their denial of entry to the courtroom was that the hearing had already begun. At the same time, the participants in the process, whom the journalists contacted, said that the hearing had not yet started by that time. Thirty minutes later, the journalists were allowed into the session, which had started shortly before.
