Additional information:
Vladislav Postnikov, editor-in-chief of the newspaper Vechernye Vedomosti, who was first arrested on 1 March for 14 days under the article on “demonstrating extremist symbols” (Part 1 of Article 20.3 of the Code of Administrative Offences), was re-arrested on 14 March under the same charge. The authorities cited old posts in which they claimed to have found symbols associated with Alexei Navalny’s campaign and the banned National Bolshevik Party. Postnikov was immediately placed in solitary confinement at a special detention centre in Nizhny Tagil for 14 days. Journalists at Vechernye Vedomosti believe that the police are targeting their editor-in-chief in retaliation for publishing a video in 2022 of an anti-war protest in Yekaterinburg, in which detainees were forced to kneel in the snow.
