The Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky City Court has sentenced journalist Vladimir Efimov, head of the Kamchatka branch of the Yabloko party, to two years in a penal colony for repeatedly “discrediting” the Russian army under Part 1 of Article 280.3 of the Criminal Code. He has also been banned for four years from publishing materials or administering websites and online channels. A new criminal case against Efimov became public in August 2024, when the court placed him in pre-trial detention. The specific grounds for the prosecution have not been disclosed. Prior to this, two criminal cases had already been brought against the journalist on the same charge of repeatedly discrediting the army.
