The St. Petersburg City Court considered an appeal by Rosselkhozbank’s lawyer against the measure of restraint for Vladimir Shevchenko, the editor-in-chief of the portal FinNews, who is accused of extorting RUB 1.2 million from the bank. Earlier, in November 2019, the judge of the Vasileostrovsky District Court changed the measure of restraint for the journalist from detention in a pre-trial detention centre to house arrest. This became possible after specialists of the North-West Centre for Forensic Expertise studied the recordings of Shevchenko’s negotiations with the bank representative and found no signs of threats or extortion in the defendant’s words.
