Victoria Roshchina disappeared around 3 August, 2023, while heading to Russia to prepare a report. Her exact whereabouts at the time of her disappearance is unknown. During their last call, she told her father that she had passed the border checks, but did not specify where she was. At that time, she was not officially employed by any editorial offices, but was a freelancer for both Hromadske and Ukrainska Pravda. The journalist's family officially notified Ukrainian authorities of her disappearance on 12 August.
