The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Tajikistan accused Ulfathonim Mamadshoeva of organising an illegal rally in the city of Khorugh in eastern Tajikistan. One protester was killed, and several people were injured in the dispersal of the rally held on May 16. The Prosecutor's Office has opened a criminal case against the incident's organisers, the Ministry of Internal Affairs press office said. Meanwhile, relatives said Ulfathonim was in Dushanbe, more than 600 km from Khorugh. She returned from Khorugh a few days ago, where she was gathering materials for publications. On August 15, 2022, the prosecutor asked the court to deprive the journalist of her freedom for 25 years. A criminal case was initiated against Mamadshoeva under eight articles of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Tajikistan, including part 2 of Art. 307 (Public calls for a violent change in the constitutional order of the Republic of Tajikistan).
