Journalist Tynystan Asypbekov was detained and arrested on January 16 along with other investigative journalists of Temirov Live team. On January 17, he was taken to a temporary detention centre and then to a pre-trial detention centre. The day before his arrest, Asypbekov covered the search in the office of the news agency 24.kg. At PolitKlinika, he conducted high-profile investigative journalism, and before that, he worked at the media project Temirov Live. Like other arrested journalists, Asypbekov is charged under Article 278 of the Criminal Code of the Kyrgyz Republic (calls for mass riots). The criminal article provides for up to 8 years in prison. According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the reason for the case was one of the materials of Temirov Live in December 2023, where experts allegedly found signs of calls for mass riots.
