The journalist was covering protests against the presidential elections results, where she was detained by police officers and taken to the police department. A report was drawn up on her on violation of the legislation on mass events (Article 23.34 of the Code of Administrative Offences of the Republic of Belarus). The journalist was placed in the detention center awaiting trial. Initially, the trial was scheduled for August 12, but Shchepetkina was taken from the detention center to the hospital due to the deteriorating state of health. On September 1, the court considered the journalist's case, found her guilty, and issued a warning.
