The journalist was covering the protests against the results of the presidential elections, where she was detained by police officers and taken to the police department. A report was drawn up on her on violating the law on mass events (Article 23.34 of the Code of Administrative Offences of the Republic of Belarus). The journalist was placed in the detention center until the trial. Initially, the trial was scheduled for August 12, but due to her deteriorating state of health, Shchapetkina was taken from the detention center to the hospital. On September 1, the court, having considered the journalist's case, found her guilty and issued a warning.
