68-year-old Achilova intended to photograph a flower-laying ceremony at the eternal flame in the city of Ashgabat's memorial complex for victims of the Second World War. On her way to the memorial, she was stopped by a number of people dressed in black. When she explained that she was a journalist and was taking pictures for a report on Victory Day, the men detained her as well as verbally abused and threatened her.
