On December 13th, the Munaily District Court in the Mangistau region sentenced local activist Zhambyl Kobeisinov to six months in prison, and his wife Dilbar Begzhanova to six months of restriction of liberty, on the basis of a private complaint filed by the regional chief of police Rashid Kuandykov. The case against the couple was brought under section 2 of article 130 of the Criminal Code, "Defamation using the media or telecommunications networks," according to police officer Kuandykov. The sentence has not yet entered into force.
