In December 2018, Tatiana Igumentseva, editor of the newspaper “Rodnaya Storona” (Homeland) in the Tarasov district of Rostov Oblast, came under heavy pressure from local medical officials. The chief medical officer in the region filed the case against the newspaper for its criticism of the ambulance service. The case was won despite clear evidence to the contrary: where, for example, a resident died from a heart attack due to the delay in the arrival of an ambulance.
