On April 8th, police stopped the car of Sabyr Makazhanov, the editor of the information portal 7sunews.kz, in Taldykorgan. After checking the editor's documents, an anti-drug officer approached him. Having said that they had received a tip-off and that Makazhanov was suspected of drug use, the officer demanded to conduct a medical examination. On April 18th, the court found Sabyr Makazhanov guilty of an administrative offence under Article 613, part 4 of the Code of Administrative Crimes of the Republic of Kazakhstan, and imposed an administrative penalty in the form of a driving ban for a period of three years.
