On the morning of December 16th, Kazakhstan's Independence Day, "Uralsk Week" correspondents Raul Uporov and Maria Melnikova were detained in the street. Raul was taken to the police for investigation in connection with article 405 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan (organisation and participation in the activities of a public or religious association or other organisation after the court's decision to ban their activities or liquidate them due to their implementation in extremism or terrorism).
