On July 17, 2019, 35-year-old local journalist, blogger, director of information technology agency “Gorizont” (Horizon) and author of the Telegram channel “KomitetЪ” Mikhail Kurakin died in Togliatti in Samara Oblast. The day before his death, he wrote on Facebook: "I do not know why, but I seem to have serious issues". A criminal case was opened concerning inducement to suicide, but it was closed after six months on the basis that the person or people that induced the suicide could not be identified.
