On July 19th, the editor-in-chief of Ratel.kz, Marat Asipov, an informational analytical portal closed by court instruction, was summoned for questioning in the Almaty Police Department in a new criminal case. The basis for the pre-trial investigation under Article 430, part 1 of the Criminal Code (failure to comply with the court's verdict, court decision or other judicial act or document) was a claim from businessman Zeinullah Kakimzhanov. He accuses M. Asipov and V. Protsentov of not publishing a retraction and not removing controversial articles by Gennad Benditsky from the site Ratel.kz (the journalist died on December 3rd 2017).
