On April 2nd 2018, editor-in-chief Marat Asipov, deputy editor Sapa Mekebaev and columnist Anna Kalashnikova were detained at the Ratel.kz office in Almaty, Kazakhstan, after a search conducted by state agencies in the editorial office. They were all interrogated before they were released. Journalists are charged under Article 274 of the Criminal Code of Kazakhstan ("spreading knowingly false information"). During the search, computers and media documents were confiscated. At the same time, Forbes Kazakhstan's office was also searched and journalist Alexander Vorotilov was detained and later released.
