The Azerbaijani Institute of Standardisation filed a lawsuit against Makhbub Zulfugarov, a correspondent for the newspaper "Gündəm-xəbər". The journalist wrote a complaint about one of the leaders of the institute, Salekh Samedov, to the Geidar Aliev Foundation and law enforcement agencies. Samedov wrote in his statement of claim that the journalist had defamed him in his article. Local courts found the journalist guilty. Zulfugarov was sentenced to five months in prison for defamation. He was released in December 2017.
