The editor of the independent online newspaper Volgogradsky Reporter, Leonid Makhinya, disappeared without a trace in the centre of the city on June 7, 2018. Searches led by police, volunteers and relatives of the journalist, have yet to yield any results. A criminal case has been opened about his murder.
