In December 2017 the Khujand prosecutor's office in the Sughd region arrested the journalist and head of the KVN Team, Khairullo Mirsaidov, accusing him of four articles of the Criminal Code, in particular embezzlement and squandering of budget funds. The State Prosecutor demanded a sentence of 12 years in prison. Under pressure from international organizations, after 8 months, Mirsaidov was released from the courtroom and fined $8,200. The journalist was forced to leave Tajikistan.
