On 24th July local courts sentenced the finance director of the opposition newspaper "Azadliq", Faig Amirli (who was also an aide to the chairman of the opposition party "People's Front Azerbaijan") to three years and three months in prison. Amirli was accused of tax evasion and religious and racial discrimination. The court also obliged him to pay a fine of $22,800. In September the Baku court of appeal took the decision to grant Amirli conditional release.
