On 18th September 2017, the Sheki city court for serious crime sentenced Elchin, the editor and founder of the news website Kend, to nine years in prison for bribe taking, extortion and abuse of office. Police arrested Ismailly on 17th February 2017 and originally accused him of threatening an official in local government, according to the news website Meydan TV. The next day, police accused the journalist of attempted extortion and abuse of office, according to Meydan TV.
