Eduard Shmonin was charged with six crimes. Four of the crimes are minor – three counts of libel (Parts 3 and 5 of Article 128.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation) and one on the violation of privacy (Part 1 of Article 137 of the Criminal Code). One crime is serious – the illegal distribution and public display of pornography (Paragraphs a. and b. of Part 3 of Article 242 of the Criminal Code). One crime falls into the category of particularly serious crimes – extortion on a large scale (Paragraph b. of Part 3 of Article 163 of the Criminal Code). According to the indictment, the crimes were committed in unspecified locations in Sverdlovsk Oblast and the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug–Yugra.
