The criminal case against three journalists - Bagila Kadyrbaeva, Anarkul Suleyeva and Khabidina Rakhmanberdieva and publicist Abdraman Turmaganbetov - has ended in the Al-Farabi district court of Shymkent. They were charged with kidnapping, distribution of pornographic materials, hooliganism.The court acquitted all four of them on the previous charges of kidnapping (Article 125 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan). As a result, the defendants were sentenced to 2 years and 6 months in prison, and banned from journalistic activities for three years. Taking into account the fact that the crimes were committed by them in 2016, an amnesty was applied to the convicts in honour of the 25th anniversary of the independence of the Republic of Kazakhstan. All the convicts' (except B. Kadyrbaeva) imprisonment was replaced by restriction of freedom.
