Since 8th June 2016, Amangeldy Batyrbekov, chairman of the public association "Edilet" has been under house arrest as approved by the Saryagash District Court of the South Kazakhstan region. On 19th January, the court found him guilty of defamation and acquitted him of false denunciation. Batyrbekov was sentenced to two years of restricted freedom (1.5 years 19 days accounting for time already served) and released from custody in the courtroom.
