Afgan Mukhtarli left Azerbaijan for Georgia in 2015. In May 2017 he disappeared. Mukhtarly then turned up in Azerbaijan, where he was accused of illegally crossing the border, smuggling goods and attacking border guards. In January 2018 he was sentenced to six years in prison.
