At the start of 2017, the State Committee for National Security announced that it had started monitoring negative posts on social media concerning the president. Security services will call the authors of offensive posts for questioning. On 10th January, the SCNS' letter of response to a request from Irina Karamushkina, a deputy in the Kyrgyzs parliament representing the ruling Social Democratic Party of Kyrgyzstan, was published online. According to the security services, 45 "suspicious" Facebook users had been identified and 11 people had been summoned to the SCNS.
