Hazorasp District Court in Xorazm region has sentenced blogger Sobirzhon Boboniyazov, known as an active member of the bloggers' social media community, to three years in prison. Abdurahman Tashanov, head of the Ezgulik Human Rights Society, said that the blogger was punished for insults aimed at incumbent President Mirziyoyev and former country leader Islam Karimov. On April 21, a forensic linguistic examination showed that the blogger's posts fall under Article 158 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan (insulting the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan). Tashanov specifies that «according to the indictment, the blogger committed the crime with aggravating circumstances, i.e. while being intoxicated».
