Sino Niyozov, director of the independent TV channel Oriyonnur, was detained on charges of hooliganism. He denies the accusation. According to his lawyer, a criminal case was filed against the journalist for causing injury to health after a fight in a local restaurant. A former activist of the pro-government youth organization Avangard was injured in the scuffle. The Panjakent city prosecutor’s office confirmed that a criminal case was opened against Niyozov under Part 3 of Article 237 (hooliganism) of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Tajikistan. The director of the independent TV channel faces imprisonment for five to seven years.
