The FSB has opened criminal cases for illegal border crossing (Part 3, Article 322 of the Criminal Code) against Australian ABC journalists Fletcher Young and Catherine Diss, who were working in the Kursk region, as well as Mircu Barbu from the Romanian news site HotNews. Since 17 August, the FSB has initiated similar cases against 12 foreign journalists working in the Kursk region. On 12 September, it emerged that the Ministry of Internal Affairs had placed American CNN correspondent Nick Payton Walsh, Italian RAI journalists Stefania Battistini and Simone Traini, Deutsche Welle journalist Nicholas Conolly, and Ukrainian journalists Natalia Nahornaya, Diana Butsko, and Olesia Borovik on the wanted list.
