After 72 hours of detention, the journalist was placed under house arrest as a suspect in a criminal case under Article 368 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus «Insult of the President of the Republic of Belarus». The reason for the prosecution was the reposting of a message in the Drahichyn-based Viber group, to which Hardzievich is affiliated. The journalist was detained on December 22 by riot policemen on his way from Drahichyn to Brest. Later, his house was searched: his computer, SIM cards, phones, as well as the journalist's minibus and his wife's car were confiscated.
