Location: Tajikistan, Khujand

Additional information:

The family of Asliddin Sharipov, a 36-year-old Tajikistani who disappeared from a Russian detention centre more than a month and a half ago, found him in a temporary detention centre in Khujand. Sharipov is the brother of Shavkat Mukhammad, the editor of Payom TV, founded by the Islamic Renaissance Party and banned in Tajikistan. The organisation is also banned in Tajikistan and Russia and continues its activities abroad. Asliddin Sharipov spent just over a year in a pre-trial detention centre in Nizhny Tagil, where, according to his brother Shavkat, he was taken on the basis of a request from Tajikistan accusing him of collaborating with a banned organisation. Shavkat is convinced that Asliddin is suffering because of his activities and that the criminal charges are political. The authorities in Tajikistan, in particular the Ministry of Internal Affairs or the Prosecutor’s Office, have not yet officially commented on Sharipov’s arrest.
