The Khatai District Court of Baku has arrested Ulvi Hasanli, director of the online media outlet Abzas Media. The editor-in-chief of Abzas Media, Sevinj Vagifgyzy, was arrested for the same term as well. Both denied charges of foreign currency smuggling. As lawyers Elchin Sadigov (defending Vagifgyzy) and Zibeyda Sadygova (defending Hasanli) told reporters, the charges brought against their clients have no legal basis. Decisions on arrests will be appealed. They are charged under Article 206.3.2 of the Criminal Code (evasion, committed by a group of persons who conspired in advance). This article provides for imprisonment from 7 to 12 years.
