Two journalists who were forced to leave Azerbaijan have had criminal cases opened against them. On 13 November, the Prosecutor General’s Office issued a statement on the matter. According to the announcement, prominent US-based critical journalist Sevinc Osmanqizi and Europe-based critical journalist Abid Qafarov have been summoned to the Prosecutor General’s Office. Criminal proceedings have been brought against Sevinc Mirzayeva (Osmanqizi) and Abid Qafarov under Articles 220.2 (public calls for mass riots) and 281.2 (public appeals against the state) of the Criminal Code. A search warrant was issued for her. On the same date, by decision of the Binagadi District Court, Sevinj Osmangizi was placed under arrest in absentia.
