According to the agency’s version, he «carried out actions aimed at forming a negative image of the Russian Federation and took part in the creation of messages and materials of foreign agents». The Rosbalt agency, where Shelin worked for many years, was declared a «foreign agent media outlet» in 2021, after which it ceased operations. In 2022, Shelin moved from St. Petersburg to Finland.
