The Tverskoy District Court in Moscow sentenced writer and journalist Sergey Medvedev in absentia to 10 years in a general regime penal colony. He was convicted on charges of repeatedly “discrediting” the army (Article 280.3, Part 1 of the Criminal Code) and spreading “false information” about the military (Article 207.3, Part 2). In addition, he was prohibited from administering websites for five years. The case was based on two remarks Medvedev made in videos published on the YouTube channel Radio Liberty.
