A criminal case was opened against journalist Sergey Loiko (declared a foreign agent in Russia) for the absence of foreign agent markings in his posts on his Telegram channel. The case was brought under Part 2 of Article 330.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation — evasion from fulfilment of obligations under the law on foreign agents. The maximum penalty under the article is up to two years in prison. Loiko was a correspondent for the Los Angeles Times in Moscow and worked for Novaya Gazeta. In autumn 2022, the Ministry of Justice included the journalist in the register of foreign agents. In February 2023, he was put on the wanted list.
