Affiliated media: School of Peacemaking and Media Technology in Central Asia , NGO focusing on peace research, advocacy, and training on media issues

Incident date: November 29, 2021

Attack type:

  • Illegal impediments to journalistic activity, denial of access to information

Who attacked: Non-authorities

Source: School of Peacemaking and Media Technology in Central Asia

Location: Kyrgyzstan, Bishkek

Additional information:

The website of the School of Peacemaking was inaccessible for the publication of the pre-election study on November 29, 2021. When the page was loaded, it displayed the message «domain registration expired». This was strange, to say the least, because the financial department of the School of Peacemaking provided an extract from the organization's account on hosting.kg, indicating that the domain registration period and payment were valid until the end of 2023. After negotiations with the hosting company, the School was worked to write an official letter of request for the supposedly automatic domain extension. After sending the letter and re-negotiating with the company, a message was received saying, «wait 24 hours for the website to be launched». Thus, due to incomprehensible technical problems and previously due to a ban on the publication of pre-election research, the School of Peacemaking could not publish relevant and essential information in time.
