On October 28, 2021, Ratel.kz published an article by Dmitry Matveev «A special service officer was backing a brothel in Atyrau». The article is based on a court conviction. In January 2022, the hero of the publication, Araibek Aitkaliyev, filed a lawsuit against the owner of the website, Sapmar LLP, with the Almaty District Court. The plaintiff asked the court to compel the defendant to remove or edit the article on the website and recover KZT 100,000 (approximately USD 200) for moral damage. Aitkaliyev motivated his claim by the fact that at the time of publication the verdict had not yet entered into legal force. The court refused to satisfy the claim.
