Afanasyeva was attacked when she was filming a report on the violation of sanitary protocol in the hookah lounge MASKVA. The staff of the lounge pushed the operator out and locked up Afanasyeva for an hour and a half until the police arrived. An employee of Russia-1 claims that the administrator of the hookah lounge tried to take her phone away and hit her in the face.
