On the night of January 4-5, Ruslan Pryanikov, photographer of Agence France-Presse, was hit by a car while covering protests at the intersection of Baitursynov Street and Abay Avenue. He said that it was an accident. Protesters attacked a car that was passing by; the driver got frightened and sharply accelerated, and the photographer just happened to be in his way. The victim was treated for a broken leg.
