On December 31, Ruslan Khairnurov, blogger and activist of the «Save Samarkand» initiative group, was released from custody. According to the human rights society Ezgulik, the Samarkand Regional Court overturned the sentence of the first instance to detain Khairnurov and placed him under house arrest. During this time, the blogger is prohibited from contacting certain people, using any means of communication and communicating through them, and using the Internet. The judges concluded that a mistake had been made in the court of the first instance when the preventive measure of pre-trial detention was applied. As the activists had previously argued, there were no documents in the case to prove that Khairnurov was hiding from the investigation.
